April 18, 2022 – The outstanding academic work of Millikin University students from the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Fine Arts, College of Professional Studies and Tabor School of Business will be showcased during Millikin’s 14th annual Celebrations of Scholarship April 21-22, 2022.
During this celebratory event, students from across the university will present the results of their research, scholarship and creative efforts to the Millikin community. Multiple concurrent sessions modeled on a scholarly conference format and organized independently by each department will be held across campus.
“Millikin University’s Celebrations of Scholarship provides a showcase for the incredible academic engagement our students experience throughout the year,” said Millikin University Provost Mary Black. “Through Performance Learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom, our students are challenged to engage in the real work of the disciplines they study, applying their knowledge and skills to real-world applications with real risks and rewards.”
Celebrations of Scholarship events will begin with Honors Convocation on Thursday, April 21, at 7 p.m. at Kirkland Fine Arts Center. During this time-honored tradition, over 80 awards are presented to Millikin students and faculty who are being honored for their commitment to the pursuit of academic excellence. Many of the awards have been created to honor the men and women of Millikin’s past. The event will be made available for public viewing on Millikin University’s Facebook page.
Celebrations of Scholarship will continue with the annual Day of Scholarship on Friday, April 22, from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
In addition, the annual Judith & G. Richard Locke Poster Symposium will be held from 1 – 3 p.m. in the Bob & Debi Johnston Banquet Room, located on the 3rd of the University Commons on Millikin’s campus. The poster symposium provides students with an opportunity to share their scholarly work, and in the process, increase campus and community awareness of the variety of scholarly activities conducted by students and faculty. Further, the symposium is an excellent means of introducing and encouraging students to explore and participate in research opportunities at Millikin.
