Decatur Public Schools hosting College & Career Week

April 22, 2022 – Decatur Public Schools will host College & Career Week at all DPS schools from April 25-29, 2022.

The goal of this week-long series of events is to get students at every level exposed to and excited about post-graduation opportunities. The following activities and events will be hosted throughout the week.

DPS College & Career Week Schedule of Events:

Monday, April 25 – Your Future Awaits – DPS middle and high school students visit elementary schools to talk with younger students about the future at 12:27 pm @ American Dreamer. EHS students visit middle school students during lunch 12:27-12:57 pm.

Tuesday, April 26 – Rep Your Alumni Day – DPS alumni will visit their former schools to talk with students at 9:05 am @ Johns Hill. JHMS alumni get a tour of the new school and talk with current students.

9:30 am – 1:00 pm @ Richland Community College: Middle school students explore healthcare careers with hands-on activities.

Wednesday, April 27 – Dress for Your Dreams Day – Students are encouraged to dress up like their future desired profession from 9:30 – 11:45 am @ Montessori Academy for Peace. Students dress up for a future profession then present and discuss their dreams with the class.

Thursday, April 28 – Your Future Is In Your Hands Career Day Career and Military Day, with guest speakers from different professions – 9:30 am – 1:00 pm @ Richland Community College. High school students explore healthcare careers with hands-on activities.

10:00 – 11:00 am @ Parsons Elementary a Decatur Fire Dept. firetruck will be at the school for the Touch a Truck event.

12:00 – 1:30 pm @ Stephen Decatur a Richland Semi truck will be at the school for the Touch a Truck event.

1:00 – 2:30 pm @ EHS – Career Expo – recruitment fair for local employers offering part-time, summer, and full-time jobs.

All Day @ Harris Learning Academy. Students work with teachers to create a banner/collage that represents their career aspirations.

Friday, April 29 – College Madness – Guest speakers from colleges/universities, students encouraged to dress in their favorite college gear.

1:00 – 2:30 pm @ MHS: Career Expo – recruitment fair for local employers offering part-time, summer, and full-time jobs.
