May 10, 2022- This week is National Salvation Army Week, so Thee Morris Code is highlighting the Decatur Salvation Army.
Dr. Juanita Morris, host of Thee Morris Code, spoke with Kyle Karsten, Development Director of the Salvation Army, to talk about the history and origin of the Salvation Army, his career with the organization, and the variety of programs the Salvation Army has to offer.
“Our tag line for the Salvation Army is together, we do the most good,” Karsten said. “Now isn’t that true of really every part of anything that is going on around here? Together, we do the most good.”
The week after Mother’s Day each year is declared National Salvation Army Week. It is always the second Sunday of May, and runs through the following Sunday.
National Salvation Army Week is an opportunity to highlight The Salvation Army’s relevance in the United States today.
The Salvation Army is an international organization that has been housed in Decatur since 1888, 134 years. The Decatur Salvation Army impacts our community through programs such as: Food Pantry, Men’s Shelter, Pathway of Hope, Veterans Assistance, Homeless Prevention and Youth Programming.
