May 13, 2022 – American Red Cross volunteers and community partners will install free smoke alarms for local families vulnerable to home fires during a “Sound the Alarm” event in Decatur. The event will kick off on Saturday, May 14 at 9:00 a.m. at the Red Cross Chapter Office, located at 2674 N Main Street, Decatur, IL.
This effort is part of a national Red Cross “Sound the Alarm” initiative to install 50,000 free smoke alarms in more than 50 communities across the country in May.
The kickoff will be followed by smoke alarm installations at area homes where volunteer teams will discuss home fire safety with families. The two speakers present will be Dawn Morris, Red Cross South Central Illinois chapter executive director, and Dan Kline, Decatur Fire Department deputy chief.
