May 19, 2022 – The Decatur Police Department held an official swearing-in ceremony for it’s newest officer as they continue to actively recruit.

Matthew Schmutz, originally of Bartonville IL, was sworn in by the City Clerk and presented his badge by Police Chief Shane Brandel. Schmutz will now begin 14 weeks of basic training at the Macon County Law Enforcement Training Center.

Brandel said that the Decatur Police Department is still actively looking for 15 additional officers.

To help in recruitment, The City of Decatur is now paying for the cost of the NTN (National Testing Network) written testing fee for all applicants.  The fee will be waived during the NTN registration process.  In addition, applicatons for the position of police patrol officer are accepted on a continual basis.
