
June 10, 2022 – The Macon County Conservation District has several exciting programs coming up in June. Summer canoe rentals on Cattail pond at Rock Springs Conservation Area begin Saturday, June 11, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Other Saturdays include July 9 and August 13.
Beginning in June, the Conservation District will host open houses at three historic sites:
- The Oglesby Mansion will be open from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and the last Sunday of each month. $2 per person. Located at 421 W. William Street, Decatur.
- The Homestead Prairie Farm located at Rock Springs Conservation Area will be open each Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. through October.
- Bethel School, a historic one-room schoolhouse located at Friends Creek Conservation Area, will be open for tours July 2 and August 6 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Tours at both the Homestead Prairie Farm and Bethel School are free.
The Rock Springs Ground Squirrels will play against the Belleville Stags on Saturday, June 11 at 12:00 p.m. Watch a game of authentic 1858 vintage baseball. Home games are played at Beautiful Trobaugh Field at Rock Springs Conservation Area.
Independence Day 1860 at the Homestead Prairie Farm returns Saturday, June 25 from 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. The Farm is located at Rock Springs Conservation Area.
The Dulcimer Club performs at 2:00 p.m. Several free music events will be held during June, all located at Rock Springs Conservation Area:
- The Dulcimer Club will perform on Saturday, June 11 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
- Acoustic Music Jam on Sunday, June 12 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
- The Summer Concert Series on June 12 with the Hood Family Band, and again on Sunday, June 26 with The Tangents, both from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Other unique events happening in June include:
- A van trip to the St. Louis Zoo on Monday, June 13 from 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
- Canoeing the Sangamon Riveron Saturday, June 18 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
- Intro to Macrophotography class on Saturday, June 25 from 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
- Animal Crossing Series–Fishing Tourney on Saturday, June 18 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Rock Springs Conservation Area is located on the southwestern edge of Decatur. To get to Rock Springs from Decatur, go south on Route 48 and turn west onto Rock Springs Road or go south on Wyckles Road and turn east onto Rock Springs Road. Watch for signs. Plenty of parking is available.
