June 27, 2022 – Tuesday is Primary Election Day in Macon County, the voter’s chance to determine who will be on the ballot in November.
In Illinois, when you vote in a primary, you state your affiliation with a political party at the polling place in order to vote in that party’s primary. Because the voter does not have to register partisan affiliation in advance, Illinois’ primaries are considered open.
In both parties, statewide races are being held for Governor & Lt. Governor and Secretary of State. Governor JB Pritzker is expected to win the Democratic primary handily against challenger Beverly Miles. In the Republican primary, voters will choose between Darren Baily, Richard Irvin Jesse Sullivan, Paul Schimpf, Gary Rabine, and May Solomon.
On the Republican ballot, the primary contest will also determine the Republican candidate for Attorney General to go against Kwame Raoul in November. Those candidates include Steve Kim, David Shestokas and Thomas Devore. Voters will also be choosing the Republican candidate for Senate to take on Tammy Duckworth in November.
In the 13th Congressional district, Democrat voters will be choosing between Nikki Budzinski and David Palmer. Republicans will be choosing between Regan Deering, Matt Hausman, Jesse Reising and Terry Martin.
In the 15th Congressional district, Republican voters will be deciding between Congressman Rodney Davis and Congresswoman Mary Miller.
For Il State Senator, Republican voters will be choosing between Senator Steve McClure and Don Debolt.
In the Macon County sheriff’s race, Republican voters will choose between incumbent Jim Root and Cody Moore. Additionally, voters will determine the race between republicans Rodney Forbes and Shane Mendenhall for sixth judicial circuit judge and the seats for County Board districts four and five.
