Honor Our Heroes in Central Park September 11

August 23, 2022 – On Sunday, September 11, Decatur will host the 14th annual “Cruise 11 to Remember 9-11” event. The theme of the day will be “Honor our Heroes.” The event will take place in Decatur’s Central Park.

Cruise 11 serves as a fundraiser to collect donations for the Doug Hagen Memorial Scholarship Fund at MHS. Several activities will take place throughout the day around Central Park.

It will culminate with a 2:00 p.m. First Responder Thank You Awards Service in memory of the heroes of 9-11 and in recognition of the daily services our first responders provide to us. Representatives of the Decatur Police, Macon County Sheriff, and Decatur Fire Department have been invited to receive their recognition awards and thank you notes from the community. Everyone is encouraged to attend at the Central Park Stage.

Other activities for the day will include:

  • 8:00 a.m. – The Car/Bike Show registration begins. All vehicles are encouraged to participate in the car and motorcycle show. The entry fee is $11. Goody bags and magnetic dash plaques will be given to the first 75 entries.
  • 12:00 p.m. – Car/bike judging by Veterans and first responders (Top 10 Best in Show).
  • 2:30 p.m. – First Responder Thank You Awards Service and Show Awards
  • 3:00 p.m. – 11-mile BG Nevitt Memorial yellow ribbon “Cruise.” Participants will be given yellow ribbons to show their support of our Troops, thank our Veterans and remember the tragedy of 9-11. The Cruise will begin at the corner of West Main & Merchant streets and go West on Main Street to the Decatur Conference Center and will return on Main to downtown for the show.
