August 29, 2022- Prairieland Service Coordination, Inc. hosted the grand opening of its Square 1 program at its new location, 4857 US Rt 36 E. Decatur, IL.
PSCI is an agency that connects people with disabilities to the services they want and need.
“We work hand in hand with folks with disabilities and their families to make sure they live where they want and work where they want and have the things they need,” executive director of PSCI,” Helen Michelassi said.
The agency serves 23 counties in the state of Illinois, one of them being Macon.
Square 1 is a program where the staff will connect people with life struggles in need of services with local agencies and organizations who can provide those services. The staff will aid in the paperwork process for services, such as social security. They will also ensure those in need will have transportation to appointments and interviews.
“Our Square 1 program came about because we found more and more there were folks without disabilities that were calling us that had life struggles and they didn’t know the process to get their help,” Michelassi said.”
The ultimate goal is to direct people on a path towards self-sufficiency.
“Macon County is full of very good not-for-profit agencies, standing around waiting to help people, and they do a phenomenal job,” Michelassi said. “We need to get the people to those agencies.”
