October 11, 2022 – Due to rain, the Preston Jackson Park dedication ceremony will be rescheduled to this Friday, October 14, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe and the Decatur City Council will formally dedicate Preston Jackson Park in a ceremony on Friday, October 14, 2022.
The City will unveil a brass plaque honoring Mr. Jackson as well as park signs denoting Preston Jackson Park. Food will be available for purchase and there will be some live jazz music.
History: On June 20, 2022, the Decatur City Council passed a resolution naming the downtown green space after Decatur native and world-renowned sculptor Preston Jackson. The park already houses one of Jackson’s sculptures honoring African American Civil War soldiers.
Preston Jackson Park is located at 337 N Water Street in downtown Decatur.
