November 17, 2022 – Workforce Investment Solutions and The Community Foundation of Macon County announced a new childcare bridge program to address the critical need for childcare workers.
The bridge program will be a part of the Richland Workforce Consortium, a partnership between the Richland Community College Adult Education Department and Workforce Investment Solutions that provides a variety of resources for adult learners. The Community Foundation of Macon County is providing supplemental grant funding to support the program in the amount of $25,000.
The bridge program will work to get more qualified teachers into our daycares, so more families can get childcare and be able to accept employment, according to Rocki Wilkerson, Executive Director of Workforce Investment Solutions.
“Access to affordable and quality childcare was identified as a critical need in Macon County according to the Comprehensive Community Assessment completed in 2021 and having childcare is crucial to assist our families with going to work or finding work,” said Wilkerson.
The program will begin on February 6th and will be an 8-week program to train candidates for entry-level child care positions. Once the program is completed, they will have an opportunity to take additional classes at Richland Community College to receive additional certification.
Informational sessions will be held on the following dates at Workforce Investment Solutions at 757 W Pershing Rd.
10am – Tuesday January 10th
10am – Thursday January 12th
