December 7, 2022 -Law enforcement and first responders are ringing Salvation Army bells in a heated competition to see who can raise the most money.
The Salvation Army’s Guns Vs. Hoses event continues until 8pm today and from 8am to 8pm tomorrow at Walmart locations and Sam’s Club.
The Decatur Police are stationed at the Walmart East location at the grocery entrance and The Macon County Sheriffs office is also located at Walmart East at the pharmacy entrance. Decatur Fire are stationed at Walmart North at the grocery entrance and County Fire are stationed at Sam’s Club.
The Decatur police are hoping to keep their title and trophy this year after winning the completion last year. Though Police Chief Shane Brandel said it’s about much more than the bragging rights.
“What’s great about this event is that we are able to help the Salvation Army and those dollars are able to help families locally in our community. This is something our officers really enjoy doing and it’s a great way to give back” said Brandel.
The Decatur Police have 48 officers participating as well as their families. It’s not the only way the Decatur Police are giving back this year. Their annual “shop with a cop” will be held next Saturday.
You still have time to help your favorite team! Donations can be made virtually through a Virtual Kettle at www.DecaturRedKettle.org or by stopping by one of the three locations and placing donations in the kettles of Police, Sheriff, County or City Fire.
All dollars raised throughout the weekend will be matched up to $75,000.
