Yesterday (December 12th) was day one of opening statements in the Megan Thee Stallion felony assault trial, which kicked off in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom. As previously reported, Tory Lanez has been accused of shooting at Megan Thee Stallion, wounding her in both feet after shouting “Dance, b*tch” back in July 2020. He was initially charged with two counts of assault with a semiautomatic weapon and carrying a loaded, unregistered weapon inside a moving vehicle. The Canadian rapper has since been hit with a third felony charge in connection to the shooting for allegedly using a firearm negligently.
Nancy Dillon, a senior reporter for Rolling Stone, provided a few updates on the trial, saying that Tory and Megan's former best friend Kelsey Nicole both tested positive for gunpowder residue.
She said, “Lanez denies being shooter. Megan will testify & is adamant she saw Lanez fire. Lanez’s atty plans to present theory Megan’s former best friend Kelsey Harris could have discharged gun. (Both Lanez & Harris tested+ for GSR… it travels in small spaces). Harris also due to testify.” She continued, “Prosecutor said in opening statement that Kelsey Harris will testify that she 'saw her close friend get shot by the defendant.'
Several celebrities will likely attend the trial, Lanez reportedly intends to Kylie Jenner and her mother’s boyfriend Corey Gamble as witnesses. According to Tory’s legal team, the argument that led to the shooting that night began at Kylie Jenner’s pool party in Los Angeles, which Corey Gamble also attended.
PROSECUTOR: TORY SHOT MEGAN AFTER SHE INSULTED HIS MUSIC
According to TMZ, prosecutors claimed that Tory fired off five shots after Megan insulted his skills by sarcastically calling him a “beautiful artist.”
According to the prosecution, Tory's text messages after the fact admitting to being too drunk and apologizing profusely are pretty damning evidence.
After the pool party, Megan,Tory, Kelsey were said to have gotten into a black SUV with a man named Jauquan Smith, who prosecutors say drove Tory to the party and brought a 9mm handgun.
Prosecutors say that after Megan dissed Tory's music, Jauquan pulled the truck over and Megan and Kelsey got out of the car. And this is when Tory is said to have fired the gun at Megan, instructing her to “dance b*tch.”
Meanwhile, Tory's side claims that they were all at Kylie's pool party when things went left and Meghan was asked to leave. Tory's attorney, George Mgdesyan, also argued Tory's DNA wasn't on the gun and that he was wearing a swimsuit during the alleged incident, asking the jury, “Where did he pull the gun from?”
Mgdesyan also told the jury that it was really Megan and Kelsey who were arguing with each other that night and it was because Megan and Tory had a sexual relationship as well as Kelsey, and suggested that Kelsey ws mad because Megan has a history of stealing her boyfriends, including DaBaby and Ben Simmons.
According to The Shaderoom, a source said that allegations that Kelsey had any dealings with Ben Simmons “are false” and that Kelsey doesn't know him. The source also revealed that Tory called Megan from jail apologizing for what happened.
Tory's attorney also claimed that Megan had her back turned when the gun went off and she couldn't possibly know who shot her.
Meanwhile, during cross-examination of LAPD officer Sandra Cabral, who pulled over the SUV that Megan Thee Stallion and Tory Lanez were riding in, Cabral said Kelsey had blood and scratches on her right leg, plus a ripped strap on the left side of her bathing suit.
