December 26, 2022 – The African American Cultural & Genealogical Society Museum will host a special celebration of Kwanzaa on Friday, December 30, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Decatur Township Office, located at 1620 South Taylorville Road.
Kujchagulia, or self-determination, is a celebration of Kwanzaa. This year’s theme presents “Succeeding Against the Odds.” Ms. Shatriya Smith and her team of poets will present multiple poems to help celebrate the holiday and history. Smith is the executive director of the Garvey-Tubman Cultural Arts & Research Center in Springfield.
The AACGS is collecting men’s and women’s socks to donate to local shelters. If you would like to participate in giving, whether it is monetary or actual items, please bring socks to 235 Eldorado Street during office hours. You can also donate in person at the Kwanzaa celebration.
