January 3, 2023 – FBI Springfield’s Special Agent in Charge, David G. Nanz, released a statement for the new year regarding the successes of 2022 and what they hope to improve.
“We work shoulder-to-shoulder with our local, state, and federal partners, using intelligence to drive investigations which identify and target the most violent and dangerous offenders,” Nanz said. “In total, we arrested more than 35 violent criminals during the year.”
FBI Springfield released numbers that further portray how 2022 unfolded. They arrested 45 drug-involved individuals and seized dangerous drugs and firearms. 20 individuals were charged for orchestrating financial fraud schemes. 80 individuals were put behind bars for being involved in harming or attempting to harm children.
Nanz also said, “Law enforcement officers are entrusted with power and authority to protect our community. In the rare instances when officers abuse that authority, the FBI prioritizes holding those officers accountable. This year, FBI Springfield brought justice on prison guards who brutally beat an inmate resulting in his death.”
