January 4, 2023 – Not sure what to do with your used live Christmas tree now that the holidays are over? The Macon County Compost Facility will take them.
Everything must be removed from the tree including the stand, lights, decorations, garland & plastic.
Drop-off is available at the compost site at 3520 N. Bearsdale Road, Decatur, IL. They are open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Other options for getting rid of your real tree are asking your tree retailer about return & mulch programs or calling your waste hauler for their pick-up schedule. In addition, you can recycle your tree for use as a fish habitat with Lake Shelbyville.
