February 9, 2023 -A temporary restraining order has been issued in Macon County, keeping the state from enforcing a recent gun ban on over 2000 Macon County Gun owners.
Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed legislation that banned dozens of specific brands or types of rifles and handguns, .50-caliber guns, attachments, and rapid-firing devices. Under the law, no rifle will be allowed to accommodate more than 10 rounds, with a 15-round limit for handguns. Those who already own such guns would have to register them, including serial numbers, with the Illinois State Police.
Wednesday, Judge Rodney Forbes issued a temporary restraining order in favor of the over 2000 plaintiffs in Macon County. The case was brought by state Rep. Dan Caulkins, Perry Lewin of Decatur Jewelry & Pawn, and the 2100 plaintiffs under the banner of “Law-Abiding Gun Owners of Macon County.” The TRO is temporary and a status hearing in the case is set for March 20 in Macon County.
This marks the third limited order issued against the gun and magazine ban in state court.
A judge in downstate White County granted a temporary restraining order for more than 1000 plaintiffs and A three-judge panel for the 5th District Appellate Court affirmed another restraining order issued Jan. 20 by a circuit judge in Effingham County
