Richland prepares students for the future with career week

March 5, 2023 – This week, Richland Community College is holding its 2023 Career Week. Along with temporarily opening a free Success Closet for students, the week will be filled with events and workshops to assist students with professional development as they prepare for the Career Fair on March 31st.

On Monday, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., the Student Success Center will open a free Success Closet to currently enrolled students. Over the past couple of months, Richland’s staff and faculty, community members, and alumni donated close to 200 items for students to make a good impression at the Career Fair. In the four-hour window, students can pick out an entire outfit (including shoes and accessories, if available) and keep them forever. The closet will reopen on the day of the Career Fair, and if there are any items left, the closet will open by appointment to students.

Ashley Hall, Career and Completion Coach, said, “Not everyone can afford to spend a lot of money on an entire professional wardrobe or even get a nice outfit to make a good first impression at an interview. Then, there are other barriers like transportation to go shopping or the time it takes out of your day. Now, it will just be another quick stop on campus. Career Services is here to help.”

Other events throughout the week include: Do’s & Don’ts Fashion Show, Tie your Necktie Tutorial, Interest & Career Exploration, Professional Profile Handshake, LinkedIn, and Social Media Cleanup, Professional Headshots, Resume Workshop, and Interview Prep.
