March 14, 2023 – Young Leaders in Action (YLIA) is currently accepting applications for new members for the 2023-2024 school year through March 31st.
All new and returning members must fill out an application. The submission deadline is on March 31st at midnight. All high school students with a passion to serve the community and develop their leadership skills are encouraged to apply.
To apply, please visit the YLIA Facebook page or The Community Foundation of Macon County website HERE. Individuals who apply will be notified of this application process. All Macon county high school students and homeschooled students are eligible to apply.
Temethia Joyner YLIA Program Facilitator says, “Welcoming new members is always an exciting time for YLIA. Last year we had over 80 applicants. The more young people we have impacting and influencing our community in positive ways the better. I am looking forward to the opportunity to grow more young leaders in our community while increasing their social capital in spaces where young people are not historically present.”
“After being in Young Leaders in Action for two years now, I can’t wait to begin my last with new faces and personalities! I am excited to see what community outreaches we get to be a part of! YLIA has been one of my favorite parts of high school!” says current Vice President Cadence Speagle.
Young leaders in action is a student organization led by the youth of Macon County High school students. The group is committed to serving its community through nonprofit volunteer opportunities. They are sponsored by the Community Foundation of Macon County and Rotary Club No. 180 of Decatur.
