March 14, 2023 – Arts at the Decatur Park District will present Newsies Jr. at Johns Hill School this weekend.
The performances will be held on March 17 at 7:00 p.m., March 18 at 2:00 and 7:00 p.m., and March 19 at 2:00 p.m. and are comprised of over 115 youth from the Decatur area ranging in ages 5 – 18.
This show tells the true story of the children of New York who work tirelessly as newsboys’ and girls, in 1899. When powerful newspaper publishers raise prices at the newsboys’ expense, the charismatic Jack Kelly rallies Newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions. Together, the Newsies learn that they are stronger united and create a movement to fight for what’s right. Newsies JR. is a timeless story full of spirit and heart.
