Mar 28, 2023 | 4:20 PM

March 28, 2023 – The Macon County Conservation District has announced that registration for it’s 2023 summer camps will be going live on its website on April 3. The camps will run from June 6 through August 4 and parents will have five camps to choose from this year.

Space is limited each week and camp activities are subject to change. Camps are held or will meet at Rock Springs Nature Center.

Earth Adventures returns as the full-day, week-long nature camp designed for ages 6-12 with the theme for this year being Conservation Superheroes. You can pick and choose which weeks you would like for your child to attend, or join for the whole summer. Earth Adventures runs weekdays, from 9am to 4pm with before and after care options available. A fee of $140/week covers all activities, snacks, swimming, and field trips. Siblings receive a discounted $20 off each week for every additional sibling. Campers bring their own lunches.

If a full week of camp doesn’t fit your schedule or your child is transitioning from the Mini Camp and is not quite ready for a full day of camp, the Macon County Conservation District offers Adventure Club. Campers age 5-12 join in on Earth Adventures activities on Tuesday mornings from 9am-12 pm. A fee of $20/camper covers all supplies, activities, and a midmorning snack. Pick and choose which weeks to come or attend all nine from June 6 through August 1.

New this year is a History Camp, where campers will learn about life in the 1800’s. In this new camp, children will discover the differences between today’s modern conveniences and the ways of life from 200 years ago. Campers will discover historic toys and games, food, homesteads, and much more. This camp is for ages 6-12, and will be held on Wednesday mornings from 9am-12pm. A fee of $20/camper each Wednesday covers all supplies, activities, and a mid-morning snack. Pick and choose which weeks to come, or attend all seven from June 14 through July 26.

Children ages 10-15 seeking more adventure can choose from four unique X-treme Camp day trips, held on select Wednesdays in June and July. Day trips include survival skills (June 14), a creek walk (June 21), an exploration of Illinois caves (July 19), and a visit to Clinton Lake and a gem museum (July 26). A fee of $35/camper for in-county camps or $60/camper for out-of-county camps covers all activities.

Mini Camps are one hour long camps for children ages 1-5 with an adult buddy. They are held all year. In June and July, kids will explore a different local plant or animal each week. A fee of $8/camper covers all activities and a snack.
