April 13, 2023- Richland Community College held its annual State of the College address, discussing the state of the community college and showing the impact the college is making on both students and the community.

The event began by highlighting the college’s 50 years of service. Richland Community College opened its doors in 1972, and since opening, the community college has seen tremendous growth and reached a high level of achievement.

“We have to acknowledge that there is change, there is growth, and there is impact that is happening at the institution,” Dr. Isaac Zuniga, Executive Vice President of Academic and Student Success said.

Dr. Cristobal Valdez, President of Richland Community College, delivered the State of the College address, which focused on where the college is at currently, and where it is headed in the future.

President Valdez touched on the college’s strategic thrusts, which included high quality learning opportunities, student success, community partnerships, and financial viability.

Richland Community College believes that every student’s journey is different, and is their own. Therefore, the college took time during the event to highlight students enrolled at Richland, and enrolled in Richland programs.

“Prep Academy has definitely taught me more about myself, and I wouldn’t have been able to do that without Richland’s help,” Julie Garcia, freshman at Eisenhower High School said.

Jacob Watkins, Student Trustee also spoke on his Richland experience, and thanked the college for its support.

The event concluded with President Valdez thanking the community for its continued support, and spotlighted Richland’s students and faculty.

“The sun rises over Richland, daily, and we are happy for that,” President Valdez said. “We are happy for your support. We thank you for joining us, today. Hopefully, you learned a little bit about Richland. Got to know our students a bit better. We do have some of the best students in the country and that’s only because we have the best faculty and staff.”
