April 26, 2023- Ameren Illinois employees, the Decatur Park District staff, and community members gathered at Fairview Park to volunteer at Tuesday’s Green Thumb Give Back.
“We are here just giving back to the communities that we live in and making our park ready for the spring and summer season,” Abby Helm, Community Relations Coordinator at Ameren said. “Environmentally friendly options and ways to give back to our community are really important to us and we want to protect our parks and the community that we serve.
About 40 volunteers spent the afternoon planting about 20 trees near Fairview’s dog park and beautifying the park.
In addition to planting trees, volunteers were given free LED light bulbs, learned about Energy Efficiency, and were treated to coffee and desserts from Coffee Connection.
While Ameren was pleased with the turnout and excited for the impact the give back day will have on the community, the company is already looking towards the next community service event.
“We definitely want to get more involved in our communities, especially in Decatur, so I think this is gonna be the first of many Green Thumb Giveback events,” Helm said. “Whether it is a park, a school, our streets, whatever that looks like, I think you are gonna see more of that with Ameren Illinois in the coming months.”
