Macon County Conservation District to hold Hike Day event on June 3rd

May 29, 2023 | 3:34 PM

May 29, 2023 – In honor of National Prairies Day and National Hike Day, join the Macon County Conservation District on a Prairie Walk on Saturday, June 3 from 10:00 – 11:00 am at the Rock Springs Conservation Area.

Celebrate by coming along on a guided walk through a restored prairie. Learn why our state got its nickname, the Prairie State, and what makes this habitat so unique and increasingly rare throughout Illinois. Free. Register online by June 2.

“This is a great opportunity for people to get out and enjoy a nice, leisurely walk through a prairie while also learning about that habitat,” says Marketing Specialist, Ashton Nunn. “It’s getting a lot more difficult to find prairies in Illinois, even though they’re what gave our state its nickname. So this is a great chance for people who have maybe never had the chance to see one, let alone walk through one, to get to experience one firsthand. It’s one of our favorite habitats to teach about and to show the public, so we’re excited that National Prairies Day and National Hike Day fell on the same day this year!”

Register by noon, June 2 at MaconCountyConservation.org.
