June 3, 2023 – Yes, you CAN surf on Lake Decatur! It’s called efoil surfing and a pop-up event on Lake Decatur Sunday is the perfect opportunity to learn more!
Surf Springfield will be hosting the pop-up event on Sunday from 12PM to 4PM. They will be located on the beach in front of the Beach House along with the Standing Paddle Co. Attendees can learn more about efoil surfing, watch demonstrations, as well as take a lesson.
An efoil is an electric powered board equipped with a mast and wing. The board lifts up from the water after achieving certain speed, making the effect of “levitating”. Unlike traditional foil boards, efoils do not need the power of waves to raise above the water since being powered by a battery and propeller. This makes them ideal for flat waters like Lake Decatur.
