June 4, 2023 – The Devon Lakeshore Amphitheater held their first Movie Night Under the Stars, presented by Starry, with the film “Rookie of the Year” and those attending got a chance to meet the star of the movie, Thomas Ian Nicholas.
In the 1993 sports comedy classic “Rookie of the Year”, character Henry Rowengartner is an unskilled Little League player who dreams of playing in the major leagues. Henry breaks his arm catching a fly ball, and when it heals, he realizes he has the ability to throw a ball with incredible force. He is then signed by the Chicago Cubs and comedy ensues.
Thomas Ian Nicholas played Henry in the film and was greeted at the Devon by fans who had a chance to get autographs and photos with the actor. “It’s crazy that it’s the 30th anniversary of the year and this event has been a great way to celebrate!”, said Nicholas. Nicholas, who is also a musician and producer, said he was impressed with the facility as well. “I really hope I can come back to the Devon again with my Band!”
Mike Wilcott, General Manager of the Devon, said the event gave the Amphitheater a chance to provide free entertainment for all ages. Free Movie Night Under the Stars, presented by Starry, will occur every month through September at the Devon. July 7th will feature the film “Maverick”, August 18th with feature “I Wanna Dance With Somebody”, and September 23rd will feature the “Super Mario Bros. Movie.” The movies will begin about dusk with gates opening at 6:30 pm p.m. You are encouraged to bring a blanket or chair to sit on. No outside food or drink permitted.
