June 18, 2023 – The Devon Lakeshore Amphitheater hosted the 3rd annual Juneteenth Multicultural Celebration Sunday.
“We Are the Change” was the theme this year and the event included musical performances from Smooth Times Band, dance performances by Dynamic Threat, vendor booths, demonstrations, poetry readings, a comedian, educational booths, and food trucks from Lavell’s Kitchen and Snowball Effect along the lakefront.
The event was organized by the Decatur Park District, Park District Commissioners Stacey Young and Shelith Hansboro and a volunteer committee.
Young said the event is not only about a good time- but about education. “Any time we have an opportunity to bring our community together for a free family fun event, we want to do that. But we also want to provide education to those who may not know what Juneteenth is all about.”
