
June 22, 2023 – The Decatur Park District will host various Fourth of July activities for residents of all ages to get outdoors and enjoy the holiday.
Families can kick off Tuesday, July 4 with a visit to Scovill Zoo. Visitors can stop by to see the animals, ride the carousel or train and enjoy the grounds from 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m. with the last admission taken at 5 p.m. All patrons can ride the carousel for free with paid zoo admission.
For those looking to beat the heat with a dip in the pool, Splash Cove will host open swim from noon-6:30 p.m. Next door at Overlook Adventure Park, a round of mini golf will be $6.75 per person, and 2-activity adventure passes will be available to purchase for $13. The high ropes course, batting cages and mini golf will be available from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Guests at both places can cool off with a sweet treat at Over the Top Ice Cream Shop, which will be open from noon-9 p.m.
Down at the Devon Lakeshore Amphitheater, local band Off the Wall will kick off at 7 p.m. Mixing modern pop and country rock, the band will play hits by Bruno Mars, Florida Georgia Line, Train and more. All tickets for the celebration are $4. At dusk, fireworks will fly over Lake Decatur and will be visible from Nelson Park and surrounding areas.
