June 22, 2023 – The Illinois Department of Transportation recently approved $910.4 million in bids for highway and bridge projects across the state, including $69 million for the Brush College Road bridge over Fairies Parkway and the Norfolk Southern railroad.

“This bid letting is a historic achievement for Illinois and further illustrates the kind of transformational investments being made in the state’s infrastructure due to Rebuild Illinois,” said Illinois Transportation Secretary Omer Osman in a release. “Up and down Illinois, communities are experiencing the benefits of an improved, modernized transportation system that gets you and your family where you need to go safely and reliably.”

236 contracts for road projects were approved at IDOT’s June letting, making it the largest in the department’s history. Decatur’s project and others are fueled by the state’s Rebuild Illinois program, which has and will invest $33.2 billion into the state’s transportation system. Introduced by Gov. Pritzker’ Rebuild Illinois is the first to benefit all modes of transportation across the state, including roads and bridges, waterways, railways and aviation.

38 of the contracts were over $5 million, and contracts for all projects are generally awarded within a month following the bid letting. For most projects, construction usually starts shortly thereafter. No formal timeline has been announced for the construction of the Brush College bridge.
