June 27, 2023 – Award-winning actress and Illinois native Jane Lynch is starring in a new campaign for the Illinois Office of Tourism.
The office’s summer campaign features three new ‘Middle of Everything’ television advertisements highlighting attractions around the state, including in Chicago, Southern Illinois, and the Great River Road. The new summer features are currently airing in 22 total media markets on TV across Illinois and seven neighboring states, starring Evergreen Park native and Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning actress-director Jane Lynch.
The summer campaign features a catchy new song performed by Lynch that promotes the diverse attractions, natural wonders and outdoor experiences that can only be found in Illinois. Gov. JB Pritzker said in a press release he’s proud to feature Lynch’s talents as a way to boost tourism across the state.
“Our ‘Middle of Everything’ campaign has been a resounding success—bringing in millions of visitors and generating $1 billion in revenue,” Gov. Pritzker said in the release. “With Illinois native Jane Lynch as our shining star and spokesperson, I have no doubt that we will have a record-breaking year for our tourism industry.”
Lynch was born and raised near Chicago and studied theater at Illinois State University in Bloomington-Normal. She’s played lead roles in various shows and movies, such as high school cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester in the musical comedy Glee, and has hosted game shows for several networks. Most recently, she’s hosted the reality game show Weakest Link since 2020. Lynch said in the release the experience to work with the Illinois Office of Tourism has been rewarding.
“It’s been an absolute joy to bring to life the ‘Middle of Everything’ campaign in new and exciting ways,” Lynch said in the release. “Being able to share my passion for all things Illinois comes naturally, and getting to meet and work with so many inspiring people and unique businesses across the state is an honor.”
According to data from Longwoods International, the inaugural ‘Middle of Everything’ campaign, launched in 2022, led to an additional 2 million trips to the state. Those visits equaled an additional $1 billion (about $3 per person in the US) spent in Illinois hotels, restaurants, small businesses, and attractions.
