July 5, 2023 – Ameren Illinois is currently accepting claims for damages, including spoiled food, caused by last week’s extensive, derecho-related power outages.
Residents who lost refrigerated food or sustained other damage to property because of fluctuating or completely lost power after last week’s high-wind storm can submit claims to Ameren requesting assistance in replacing or repairing damaged goods or property. Those who wish to submit a claim should print and complete the form found on Ameren’s website (click HERE for more information) and mail it to the company’s claims center.
The form asks for basic contact information and requests claimants to list and describe the damaged items. For lost food, Ameren requests an itemized list of spoiled items along with the food’s price, a grand total of the amount lost and photos of receipts and the items, if any can be provided. Damage to equipment or property requires copies of bills paid or a price estimate to have the damages repaired or proof of total loss if the property is unable to be fixed.
The completed application should be sent to Brentwood Services Administrators, Inc. at PO Box 4605, Chesterfield, MO 63006-4605 for processing. Bills, receipts and other supporting documentation will not be returned to the claimant—copies should be kept on hand for personal records. Ameren will send written confirmation of the claim’s receipt shortly after receiving it, and a resolution will usually follow within 90 days. If the claim qualifies and clears all statutory exemptions, it will be processed and the proposed resolution will be communicated.
