City of Decatur reminds residents of guidelines for storm debris pickup

Jul 10, 2023 | 5:34 PM

July 10, 2023 – Seven crews from the City of Decatur are currently collecting tree limbs and debris from curbs of private properties following a recent derecho that ripped through Central Illinois.

Though downed trees and limbs located on private property are the responsibility of the owner, the city of Decatur is offering curbside pickup of limb debris. Crews have started collecting debris from curbs and will be for the next two weeks during 12-hour shifts. However, the City of Decatur is reminding residents of the guidelines.

– Trees and limbs must be brought to the curb immediately as pick-up has already begun.
– Trees and limbs must be cut so that they are no longer than six feet in length
– The City will NOT collect any other garbage or debris, such as parts of a fence or a shed, building materials, etc. If these items are on the tree and limb pile, none of the debris will be collected.

The city also asks residents to not park in front of any limb or debris piles.
