July 17, 2023 – The Macon County Conservation Foundation will host its annual Prairie Pedal bike ride and fundraiser for local nature lovers and cyclists on Sunday, September 24.
Funds raised from the yearly bike ride, hosted at Rock Springs Conservation Area, support natural areas and wildlife throughout Macon County. Healthy conservation areas give community members places to hike, fish, view wildlife and enjoy the outdoors, and fundraisers like Prairie Pedal make such opportunities more accessible.
Riders of all ages may choose a 20, 40 or 62-mile route along quiet Macon County country roads. All routes begin and end at Rock Springs and will be monitored by support vehicles. Cyclists will see prairie grasses, sunflowers and wildlife along each route. After the ride, a chili lunch (with a vegetarian option) and refreshments will be available with beer for purchase from Door 4 Brewing Co.
Early bird registration is open now until August 31 for $35 per rider, and the registration fee raises to $40 after August 31. Parents must ride with children, all riders must wear a helmet and the ride takes place on roadways where other motorists will be present. Riders on the 40 and 62-mile rides can check-in as early as 6:30 a.m. and check-in for the shorter ride begins at 8 a.m. All rides must be complete by 1 p.m. with lunch beginning at 10:30 a.m.
