July 26, 2023 – As temperatures across Central Illinois heat up this week, public services and offices are offering their spaces as designated cooling centers for those who need to beat the heat.
Temperatures are expected to climb into the 90s and 100s—with heat indices peaking at 110 in some places—throughout the week, and for those without air conditioning, conditions could turn hazardous. 11 community focused-centers throughout Macon County have identified themselves as official cooling centers. Hours may vary from site to site.
- Decatur Civic Center: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
- Decatur Public Library: Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m.; Friday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
- Oasis Day Center: Monday-Saturday, 7 a.m.-5 p.m.
- Macon Co. Dept. of Human Services: Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
- Decatur/Macon Co. Senior Center: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
- Blue Mound Village Hall: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
- Forsyth Public Library: Monday/Tuesday/Thursday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m.; Wednesday/Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
- Harristown Village Hall: Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
- Macon Village Hall: Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
- Mt. Zion Schools’ District Office: Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
- Whitmore/Oreana Community Center: Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
- Warrensburg Village Hall: Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
