August 9, 2023 – The Macon County Health Department, in collaboration with SIU’s Center for Family Medicine, will host a back-to-school vaccination and physical clinic this Friday, August 11.

Under Illinois law, students entering kindergarten, sixth and ninth grades are required to have a series of vaccinations—varying by age—and a physical. Because a visit to a pediatrician can be difficult for some families, MCHD has teamed up with SIU to offer clinics to ensure children are up-to-date and ready for another school year. This Friday, MCHD will host the latest in their series of clinics, from 1-3:30 p.m.

Registration is not required, but space is limited and students will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis. Guardians should bring an insurance card and a copy of their child’s medical records, if possible. The following is a list of health requirements broken down by age, provided by MCHD. For more information, visit the State of Illinois webpage on health requirements HERE.

  • Kindergarten: vaccines (5th dose of DTap, 4th dose of Polio, 2nd dose of MMR, 2nd dose of Varicella/chickenpox and Hepatitis A if not received prior), a physical, dental and vision exams and a lead test (dental exam not available at August 11 clinic)
  • Sixth grade: vaccines (Tdap, Meningitis, HPV and Hepatitis A if not received prior), a physical and a dental exam (dental exam not available at August 11 clinic)
  • Ninth grade: a physical and a dental exam (dental exam not available at August 11 clinic)
