August 14, 2023 – Richland Community College will host the 3rd annual Operation Obstacle: The Race to End Veteran Suicide on Saturday, September 23.
September is Veterans Suicide Prevention Month, and Richland is partnering with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ Suicide Prevention Team to raise funds for RCC’s Veterans Resource Center. The timed, two-mile run is mostly flat but will feature 15 to 20 different obstacles, including carrying and pulling objects, army net crawls and climbing over, under and through obstacles. At the finish line, runners will be hosed down by a fire truck and presented with a challenge coin and goodie bag.
Interested runners should register online by 9:30 a.m. on race day, with the race beginning at 10 a.m. This year, a non-competitive fun run will be offered for those who would like to participate but jog or walk the course and skip some or all of the obstacles. Check-in starts 8:30 a.m. in the RCC fitness center’s parking lot, located at the north end of the Workforce Development Institute. The top 3 male and female finishers will receive trophies.
