August 14, 2023 – The University of Illinois’ Extension Office is calling all Central Illinoisians with a green thumb to participate in their Master Gardener training this fall.
Master Gardeners are volunteers who are trained by Extension officials to provide unbiased, research-based information about how to effectively grow and maintain plants. These garden-gurus regularly host educational programming in their communities, respond to calls and emails from the public, maintain demonstration gardens and donate food from community gardens.
Registration is now open for fall training sessions in Macon County. Classes will be held from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Thursdays beginning September 14 until December 14. Course material covers botany, soils, vegetables, fruits, flowers, trees and shrubs, grasses, landscaping, insects and diseases. Classes will be held at the Macon County Extension Office, located at 3351 N. President Howard Brown Blvd. in Decatur.
Sessions will not be held on November 16 and November 23, and the registration fee is $175. Fee waivers are available. Click HERE to register by September 11. Contact Whitney Allison, Macon County’s Horticulture Program Coordinator, at 217-877-6042 with questions.
