August 16, 2023 – The Macon County 4-H and Decatur Public Library are offering their Saturday Chess Club for local youth ages 5 to 18 again this year.
Organizers say playing chess can promote brain development, improve memory, increase concentration, and improve problem-solving skills.
“After our great response last year for our Decatur Public Library 4-H Chess Club, we are excited to kick off this year,” says Ben Steele, 4-H educator. “Come have fun, play some matches, and learn game strategies.”
The Decatur Public Library 4-H Chess Club will meet from 10:30 a.m. to noon on the first and third Saturdays beginning Sept. 16 in the children’s auditorium.
All sessions of the chess club are free. Participants may register at go.illinois.edu/DPLchess up to one day before the event.
