August 29, 2023 – Candidates for the March 2024 general primary elections may begin circulating petitions on Tuesday, September 5.
Candidates may obtain petitions, Statement of Candidacy forms and other information at the Macon County Clerk’s Office in downtown Decatur. The candidate filing period opens at the Clerk’s office on November 27 at 8 a.m. and runs through 5 p.m on December 4. Several offices will file petitions throughout Macon County, including the Precinct Committeeperson, County Board Member districts one through five, the Auditor, Circuit Clerk, Coroner, Recorder and State’s Attorney.
The County Clerk’s office will not notarize any candidate forms and cannot give advice on how to complete the forms or the legal qualifications for office. The primary election will take place on March 19, 2024.
