CPR on the Go is coming to Decatur

Sep 13, 2023 | 3:24 PM

September 13, 2023- American Heart Association defines CPR – or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, as an emergency lifesaving procedure performed when the heart stops beating. CPR on the Go provides said training, thus doubling or tripling the chances of survival after cardiac arrest if immediate CPR is administered.

Dr. Juanita Morris & Dr. Jeremy Morris, co-owners of J. Morris Enterprises, a minority-owned business, recently purchased the pre-existing provider, CPR On the Go to prepare the Decatur community to immediately respond to those who may be experiencing cardiac arrest.

One of the service areas J. Morris Enterprises is beginning to focus on is driven by the five social determinants of health- access to quality healthcare. As a company, J. Morris Enterprises is beginning that journey with the emergence of CPR on the Go, which will help the Morrises create more opportunities to grow and expand products and services in the healthcare space.

Access to high quality CPR is critical when it comes to cardiac arrest. Unfortunately, about 360,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of hospitals each year, and only about 40 percent receive the immediate care they need before professional assistance arrives, according to the American Heart Association.

In the past year, the world has seen what happens when someone goes into cardiac arrest, but also has access to immediate CPR.

“The world watched Damar Hamlin’s experience in the middle of a televised NFL game, Dr. Jeremy Morris said. “And, most recently Bronny James experienced a cardiac arrest during a college basketball practice.  One of the many keys that has impacted their unprecedented return to what we hope is a quality livelihood is access to high quality CPR.”

The Decatur based CPR provider will provide classes on site to staff, teams, organizations, businesses, and families, and will be available for evening and weekend CPR classes.  CPR on the Go will offer bi-lingual (Spanish) CPR classes, as well as classes that are both in-person only and hybrid.  Their first in-person course is scheduled for Saturday, October 14.  With one course offered the second Saturday of each month in October, November, and December.  Registration can be found on Eventbrite.

Currently, CPR on the Go has six certified CPR instructors. However, CPR on the Go is always looking to acquire more qualified trainers who are serious and eager to train.

The Morrises are hopeful CPR on the Go will grow to become a premier high-quality CPR provider in Central Illinois that educators, medical professionals, as well as community members can utilize in an effort to save lives.

“We are most looking forward to impacting and saving the lives of others through CPR certification and training,” Dr. Jeremy Morris said. “We are looking forward to developing partnerships and relationships with our community and beyond, to share the importance of CPR training.”
