September 18, 2023 – Memorial Health and Cancer Care Specialists of Illinois are co-sponsoring free prostate cancer screenings this coming Friday, Sept. 22, through SIU Urology at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Prostate cancer is one of the leading cancers among men. The American Cancer Society estimates 288,300 new cases of prostate cancer will be diagnosed this year, and 34,700 people will die as a result of prostate cancer. Memorial says early detection allows for more treatment options.

The screenings will be provided from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at SIU Urology at Decatur Memorial Hospital, 302 W. Hay St., Suite 200, Decatur. The screenings include a PSA blood test, a physician-performed digital rectal exam, and blood pressure readings.

Screening for prostate cancer is recommended for men 50 to 69 years old who have no history of prostate cancer and are not under the routine care of a urologist; men older than 40 if they have a family history of a father, brother or son diagnosed with cancer; and African American men over 40, who have twice the risk of dying from prostate cancer than men of any other race.
