Gov. Richard Oglesby Mansion to Host History Comes Alive event

September 19, 2023 – The Governor Richard J. Oglesby Mansion will be hosting a “History Comes Alive” Open House on Sunday, September 24th.

Associate Professor of History at Eastern Illinois University, Dr. Alonzo Ward, will speak on the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments to the Constitution (often called the Reconstruction Amendments) and their effect on African-American migration to Illinois, and the industrialization of the Illinois economy. under Governor Oglesby on February 1st in 1865, Illinois became the first in the nation to ratify the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery in the United States.

The program will begin at 2 pm and the Mansion will close at 4 pm. located at 421 West William Street . A $2 per person donation is requested.
