September 26, 2023- Decatur Memorial Hospital will be hosting its next installment of the Memorial Specialty Care Community Education Series.

General surgeon Dr. George Liu will present “Breast Cancer: Find It and Treat It”, where he will share current best practices for the detection and treatment of breast cancer. A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation.

“October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is a great reminder of how important it is for women to be aware of breast health and know the facts about breast cancer,” Dr. Liu said. “I hope this event will raise awareness and potentially save lives.”

The event will be held at 5:30 pm. on Thursday, Oct. 5th, in Classrooms A and B at DMH. It is free and open to the public.

In addition, Memorial Health will be offering free breast cancer screenings during October for women aged 40 and older who are uninsured or underinsured.

The free screenings, part of Memorial’s annual “Mammogram Mondays,” are available at all five Memorial hospitals across the region, including DMH. Decatur-area residents can schedule an appointment by calling the DMH Breast Center at 217-876-2320.

The free mammograms for women in the Decatur area are funded by the DMH Mammogram Initiative Program.
