One of the most popular and hardest rocking songs bassist John Entwistle wrote and sang for the Who, “My Wife” examines marital discord in humorous terms — “Gonna buy a tank and an aer-o-plane/When she catches up with me won't be no time to explain.”
Entwistle, however, was dissatisfied with the way the song sounded on Who's Next, and wound up rerecording it for his third solo album, 1973's Rigor Mortis Sets In.
The Who began recording the Who's Next album with longtime associate Kit Lambert, but they became dissatisfied and switched to Glyn Johns, who would continue to work with the band throughout the '70s.
Who's Next was the only Who album to ever hit Number One on the U.K. chart. In the U.S., it peaked at Number Four on the Billboard 200.
