October 3, 2023 – The Decatur Police Department has released the results of additional enforcement efforts conducted through the Federal Fiscal Year 2023 Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program. The STEP campaign ran from Oct. 1, 2022, through Sept. 30, 2023.
Officers issued 645 citations and made 14 criminal arrests as a result of 721 traffic stops conducted during the campaign. Activity included:
- 432 speeding citations
- 3 occupant restraint citations
- 9 electronic device use citations
- 33 suspended/revoked driving citations 168 other citations
The STEP campaign was funded by federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
