Richland Community College Holds Fall Orientations for Free Adult Education Programs

October 3, 2023 – Richland Community College’s Adult Education Program will be holding fall orientations for its free GED and English as a Second Language (ESL) programs.  

Orientations will be held the following days: 

GED/High School Diploma: 

  • Monday, October 9th 9:00 a.m. Richland Community College (Room W115) 
  • Monday, October 9th 1:00 p.m. Richland Community College (Room W115) 
  • Tuesday, October 10th 9:00 a.m. Richland Community College (Room W115) 
  • Tuesday, October 10th 5:00 p.m. Richland Community College (Room W115)
  • Wednesday, October 11th 1:00 p.m. Richland Community College (Room W115) 

ESL (English as a Second Language): 

  • Tuesday, October 10th 9:00 a.m. Decatur Public Library 
  • Wednesday, October 11th 9:00 a.m. Decatur Public Library 

The GED classes meet 3-4 days a week over an 8-week session. These courses help students prepare for the GED test’s 4 subjects: Reasoning Through Language Arts, Mathematical Reasoning, Science, and Social Studies.  

The ESL courses help students improve their English speaking, reading, and writing skills for academic or employment purposes. Classes for both programs are held on campus or at the Decatur Public Library.  

Orientations are required for all new students. During orientation, students will learn more about the program and will take an assessment to place them in the appropriate class. Please arrive 10 minutes early and plan to stay for about two hours. To reserve a spot, visit: richland.edu/adulted or call 217-875-7211, Ext. 6355. Reservations are recommended but not required.
