October 22, 2023 – The Decatur Park District and the Decatur Airport held a ribbon cutting Friday to dedicate the facility’s newest addition of an all-in-one airport maintenance and fire/EMS building.
The $6.3 million dollar, 29,000 square foot building was made possible through federal CARES funds obtained by Sen. Tammy Duckworth and Sen. Dick Durbin.
Prior to the construction of the building, fire, and maintenance were on opposite sides of the airport in aging and much smaller facilities.
The new facility will house airport maintenance vehicles, such as five snowplows, four runway brooms, and 2 large capacity snow blowers. The building will also house fire personnel and 2 specialty fire trucks as well as an ambulance to serve the east side of Decatur.
