October 31, 2023 –The City of Decatur is seeking feedback on garbage and recycling services at a public hearing this Thursday, November 2nd in the City Council Chambers at 5:30 p.m.
The Decatur City Council will soon discuss garbage and recycling services and wants public input on proposed changes. There will be two hearings on Nov. 2. The first is on proposed rate changes, and the second hearing concerns non-rate revisions to City Code Chapter 56.
Proposed non-rate revisions include an adjustment to alley collection, the standardization of totes/containers, the definition of “basic residential service”, and more.
A rate hike has not been allowed since July 2021. Two local haulers have requested adjustments in their customer rates to reflect increases in labor, equipment, landfill, and other operational costs of providing services.
