November 13, 2023 – The Decatur Genealogical Society will be holding an Open House/Guided Tours on Sunday at their current facility to familiarize the community with what they offer before they make the move to a larger facility.
The open house will be held at 1:00 pm with guided tours at 1:30 & 2:30. Refreshments will also be served.
Their current location is at 1255 West South Side Drive, however, The Decatur Genealogical Society and library held a groundbreaking for their new expanded location at 2623 E Pershing Rd. The new location will make the Decatur Genealogical Society library one of the largest in the state.
The new location is expected to open in the spring of 2024 and will boast 16,000 square feet of library, meeting and research space. The new location will utilize and remodel the existing 8000 square foot space of the former Blank Westlake and Cook and build on an additional 8000 square feet to the facility. The funds for the project were part of a private bequest to the Society.
