November 29, 2023 -Governor Richard J. Oglesby’s Mansion will host their annual Christmas Open House Tours on Friday, December 1 and Saturday, December 2 from 4 to 6 p.m.
No reservations are necessary for any of the weekend’s festivities. Volunteers have decorated the home for the holiday season. This is a rare treat for the mansion to be open for public tours during evening hours. Visitors will tour the home while enjoying the lights and décor of the holiday season.
The Mansion Board of Directors will host the annual Christmas Tea on Sunday, December 3, from 1pm to 4pm. The public will be able to stroll the mansion with an informal tour and see the many decorations. There will also be tea, punch, and cookies available. Donations are accepted during these tours but not required.
The Mansion is located at 421 West William Street in Decatur and was built in 1875-76. The original plans for Oglesby Mansion were by William LeBaron Jenney, a Chicago architect who was best known for designing the first modern skyscraper.
